Last
26 September the EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES was celebrated once again in our
school. We were pleased to sense that our pupils have become familiar with this
celebration that the Council of Europe promotes every year. The celebration is
a reminder -for all people who live in this old continent- about the value of
linguistic diversity in Europe and promotion
of language learning.
Among
the several activities, we would like to highlight the participation of our
language assistant Merve, who did a lovely presentation about Turkey in all
classes of primary. She also taught us some common expressions in Turkish.
We
were also delighted to listen to Year 6B kids singing in English “Hello,
Goodbye” by The Beatles. Our music teacher did a very good job with them!
Year 4A and B wrote some interesting information about languages. If you want to have a look, they are stuck in the main corridor of our school.
Year 2 also took part preparing some EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES bookmarkers for them.
Last but not least, we were beyond Western Europe and had the pleasure to have a Russian linguist (Ms. Lilli’s guest). She introduced Years 5 and 6 to the city of Moscow and its beauties, as well as some useful expressions in Russian.
We hope that all our pupils have reinforced the idea and the feeling that the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe must be preserved and fostered.
